Smiljan Radic

Together with Mathias Klotz, Alejandro Aravena, Sebastiбn Irarrбzabal and Cecilia Puga, Smiljan Radic (born Santiago, 1965) is one of the most representative architects of the new Chilean generation. Although he works in a country seemingly far from the architectural centres, his buildings deal with the same contemporary issues confronting architects from more 'established' nations: the use of new materials, relationships with place, concern with the ordinary and an emphasis on local values that serves to bring out sensitive and unusual qualities in his work. The gentleness of his little buildings, finely detailed yet engaging with the wider environment, ensures that they constitute some of the best examples of contemporary Chilean architecture.
